Did I crack the code?

Experience the thrill of an escape room!!

By Liz Stanley July 6, 2023

Did you know that escape room games have been around for almost 15 years?

Have you ever experienced an escape room?

I have heard more and more about Escape Rooms over the last few years although I had no idea how long this industry had been thriving. Up until a few weeks ago I had also never stepped foot inside of one either. That however changed for me when I connected with Beth Rosen, the owner of Crack the Code Escape Room in downtown Staunton, VA and she invited me to come down and try it out.

When I told my teenage daughter that we had this fun opportunity she was ecstatic. My daughter loves mystery and thrillers so this was right up her alley. We decided to go on their website to see what theme rooms she had available, and let me tell you we were not disappointed. Right away we were intrigued by the “Unexplained Files” room with the FBI missing person case and the “Subway NYC” room with the runaway train. After chatting with Beth about our preferences and what difficulty level we were looking for, especially since we were first-timers we ultimately decided on “Subway NYC”.

As a newbie to the escape room world, I was unsure what to expect and was even a little nervous. However, from the moment we walked in I was hooked. Beth greeted us at the door and she was so helpful at explaining the process to us while answering our questions. After we watched out introduction video she then explained any extra details that we needed to know specific to the room we were playing. Then we got to pick our team name and the fun begins. She walked us back to our game room and locked the door.

I won’t give any spoilers away. I will say this theme room was a blast. It was challenging but even as first-timers I am proud to say we were able to solve the game and escape the room. I can't wait to go back and try my hand at the "Unexplained Files" game room!

I can not recommend Crack the Code Escape Room and Beth enough for a fun filled time with your friends and family. This is also a fabulous way to get your kiddos off the screens and get their minds working during the summer break from school.
